A Letter from the President
West Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers
Happy New Year!
Hopefully all of our members are well, as we move into this year of change. The economy is taking its toll, and I don’t need to place any more emphasis on that subject. What I would like to emphasize is the need to continue your membership, attendance, and involvement with West Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. We continue to ask for your participation in any way or form to make your membership worth while. Last month I had asked for feedback on our program content, which I did receive a few responses. We will take this into consideration and appreciate any an all constructive feedback. We do realize that companies are doing more with less, and time is of the utmost importance. The time that we do have available to us has to get the most for the miles.
In 2007, a survey was conducted by our chapter and the following is the feedback we received:
72 % of those returning information stated " subject matter" was most important
21 % CEU points were a reason for attending
57 % Networking with other EHS Professionals
36 % Location of where the monthly meetings are held
57% surveyed stated networking is why they attend meetings ( 2007).
At last count, we have approximately 190 members in the WMASSE. We would be thrilled to have at any given event 30% of our members attend. I personally can attest that WMASSE has provided networking that has been extremely beneficial. You can participate in many ways; articles for the newsletter, announcements of safety events, attending meetings, and involvement in volunteer opportunities.
Please plan to attend our joint meeting with the Detroit Chapter on April 7th, at the Michigan Safety Conference, here in GR.
